Everything you need to know before your ride.

BOOKING

How do I book?

Fill in the inquiry form on our Contact page with your preferred dates, group size, and riding experience. I'll get back to you within 24 hours to confirm availability and next steps.

Do I need to pay upfront?

A deposit of ¥5,000 per person is required to secure your booking. The remaining balance is paid on the day of your experience by cash or credit card.

How far in advance should I book? At least 2–3 weeks in advance for most experiences. For the Sakura Ride and Private Horse Retreat, 4–6 weeks is recommended as availability is limited.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Cancellations made more than 7 days before your booking are eligible for a full deposit refund. Cancellations within 7 days are non-refundable. Rescheduling is possible subject to availability — contact me as soon as possible.

THE EXPERIENCE

Do I need riding experience?

No — all experiences are open to complete beginners to experienced riders. I'll match you with the right horse and program for your level.

Is there a weight or height limit?

Some of our partner facilities have weight limits between 75kg–100kg. Please include your height, weight, and date of birth in your inquiry form so I can confirm suitability before booking.

Are children welcome?

Yes, at most facilities. Please mention the age and size of any children in your inquiry so I can confirm the right experience for them.

What languages do you guide in?

English, Chinese (Mandarin), and Japanese. All safety briefings and on-ground communication are fully covered — no language barrier.

LOGISTICS

Where are the experiences located?

Our experiences are spread across Japan — Kanagawa (near Tokyo), Nagano, Nara, and Tohoku (Miyagi). Each tour page includes location details and the nearest train station.

How do I get there?

Most locations are accessible by Shinkansen or local train. I'll provide detailed access instructions once your booking is confirmed. Some tours include a pickup from the nearest station.

What if it rains?

Light rain generally doesn't cancel a ride — horses and guides are used to it! Heavy rain or unsafe weather conditions may require rescheduling. I'll monitor conditions and contact you in advance if there's any concern.

I don't see a tour that fits my dates or needs — can you help?

Absolutely. Get in touch via the Contact page or DM me on Instagram @horseback_in_japan and I'll do my best to put something together for you.

Do you offer interpretation or guiding services beyond horse riding?

Yes — I also offer private sightseeing and interpretation in Kanagawa (Miura, Yokosuka, Kamakura, Zushi, Hayama) and Tokyo. If you're interested in a horse riding experience not listed in our tours, feel free to reach out too — I'm happy to help arrange something tailored to you.
